Holidays: As Essential as Oxygen

Lorne hotelsSo far as I’m concerned, holidays aren’t just breaks. They’re a natural part of life, one that should be embraced as just as necessary as breathing to humanity. Without holidays…we are nothing. It’s one of my core beliefs. Not that people should take holidays disproportionately, lest they lose all of their power. It’d be like having Christmas every day. Who’d do that?

Anyway, that’s why I’d like to institute an Australia-wide holiday policy, maybe have some mandatory vacation spots. I have excellent contacts in the Lorne luxury accommodation industry, because I myself am so very good at taking periodic holidays. Lorne is one of my favourite places, mainly because as location parameters go it really has it all. It can be bustling, but not overcrowded. There are events and things to do, but you don’t have to book three years in advance to miss some world-famous surfing competition. The locals are friendly, the towns surrounding are well stocked and it’s not overly far from civilisation. As in, you don’t have to set aside an entire day just get there, and another day just to get back. I could be biased, because I’ve been visiting since I was a child and I’ve filled out so many feedback forms that I may have had a substantial hand in creating the industry. But I also like to think I have an idea of what’s best. I could’ve been running a hotel by now, except for the fact that living in a place that used to be a holiday just feels wrong. Lorne would just instantly cease to be a place of relaxation and turn into a job…and then I’d have to go and find somewhere else to relax. I don’t need that sort of drag in my life, even though in my case I have a few holiday spots in Australia and beyond.

So that’s my goal. Acceptance for holidays as a social norm! And I don’t mean lounging around at home, either. The true benefits lie in getting away. Need some recommendations? Lorne. Hotels aren’t that hard to book any more.
