Building a house together

mobile aluminium scaffoldingWorking on the project together has been amazing for me and Lucas. It’s brought us much closer together and we have had to confront some big issues in our relationship. We’ve managed to develop a great working relationship where we split tasks based on skills. I am better at logistics and dealing with people whereas Lucas is better at dealing with the budget and the site. Take the issue of sorting out the mobile scaffolding for instance. I sourced the best company to provide the scaffolding, arranged with the contractor when and where they needed it and then sent the invoice through to Lucas with a memo of when he needs to be on site to receive it and sign for everything. Same thing when it came to arranging the aluminium work platforms. Now, that is team work. We have managed to agree on most things to do with the actual build, he has a greater technical knowledge of construction than I do so a few times I have had to cave due to technical error, or at least that what’s he says. A lot of people think we are crazy for building a house together having only been in a relationship for five months but it’s something we both wanted to do independently and by pooling our resources we could make it happen! So far, it really has been pretty plain sailing. I’ve made sure to be completely transparent in all my work to do with the house so he knows exactly what is going on at all times. He even knew about the mobile aluminium scaffolding before I sent him the memo about it arriving on site. We have been doing everything from a joint email account so he had seen my correspondence with the aluminium platforms company and noted down when needed to be on site to manage their arrival. There is nothing like being in a relationship that doubles up as a working partnership!
