Streaming My Way to Success

There’s some seriously good money in streaming nowadays. Seriously, it’s a big deal. I know it’s mostly a lot of gaming, but people are doing all kinds of things. There’s one guy in California who just bakes cakes, live, and thousands of people watch that. Baking cakes, for real. It helps that he’s good-looking and has nice hair, but that’s beside the point. The fact is that baking is boring to watch, but people will still tune in to watch it regardless. There are folks who live-stream their trips in a canoe (pretty popular, since they have a dog and the internet loves dogs) and loads of people that do renovations. It’s like some kind of rustic revival.

My favourite so far is a bunch of people who show us different types of jobs, like…a fly on the wall type thing. That’s what the show is called: ‘Fly on the Wall’. They travel around and show you all kinds of things that people do for a living, and that’s it. Really interesting, actually! Lately it’s been a series on office fitouts across in Melbourne, and the challenges faced by office folk trying to pick their new furniture and then adjusting to the changes. That makes it sound a bit more dramatic than it is, when actually, the show goes for this organic feel over anything else. I think that’s their main draw: making everything seem really natural. Just some people doing office renovations, choosing the colour of their sofa and…pulling up wires and stuff. The last episode had this major upset, since they ordered a sofa that was peach and it came as sunset orange, but seriously, it looked WAY better with the decor and Shirley was just being really difficult about it. Luckily, Brett was there to calm down the feud and they went for a compromise.

So yeah, it’s really easy to get involved in this stuff, even though it’s ‘normal’. Whatever, I enjoy it! Live-streaming is the way to go. Probably pretty good for the Melbourne office space design industry. Exposure and all that.
